Built in 1966, Carter G. Woodson K-8 School has remained a strong cornerstone of suburban south central Houston for more than 40 years. Many successful Houstonians have received their formative training at Woodson.
Woodson continues to broaden its horizon by implementing the Gateways to Science. Moreover, we are strengthening our academic program by offering Spanish, Band, Choral Music and Public Speaking for our students.

Woodson serves grades kindergarten through 8 and is a part of the Houston Independent School District.
The school was named after Carter G. Woodson. Dr. Woodson is known as the “Father of Black History.” Dr. Woodson authored numerous scholarly books on the positive contributions of Blacks to the development of America. He also published many magazine articles analyzing the contributions and role of African Americans.
