Arts Education Matters Grant Administrators at Woodson

The Arts Education Matters grant administrators were special guests at Woodson K-8 on September 21, 2009. Mrs. Whitley and Mr. Polidore welcomed HISD’s Fine Arts Manager Vivian Fridley-Hereford, Diane Austin (Grant Manager), and Dr. Cindy Herbert, External Auditor/Evaluator on the campus. Dr. Herbert said this is the final year of the grant which assisted teachers and school administrators in exposing the fine arts in their respective schools over the past few years.

Over the past four years, the program introduced students to Theater, Music, Fine Arts and Dance activities at Woodson K-8 and other HISD schools that were supported by the grant. HISD will supervise a similar program the next few years in the district.

Victorious Jags!!!! Football and Volleyball

The Woodson Jaguars have started the sports year off with victories in football and volleyball! The Mighty Jags football team defeated Clifton on yesterday, September 15th, by a score of 18 – 6. The team’s next game will be against Lanier at Butler Stadium on September 23rd at 5:00 PM.

The Lady Jags Volleyball squad defeated Attucks on yesterday. Let’s give it up for two great performances by the Football and Volleyball teams!

The male instructors at Woodson met with all of the young men at Woodson to begin their “Male Initiative” Program. The Men of Woodson are challenging the young men to be more mature and establish higher standards as “young males” in the community. Thoughout the year, the male students will be accountable for “Taking Charge” as leaders in the school.
